Nunziatura di Germania, 1515-1809, with some additions to 1816.

These are files brought together by the Secretariatus Status concerning Germany, the Holy Roman Empire, the Austrian court, and Austrian possessions in Italy. The records are made up of two major sections: office files of the Secretariatus Status and office files of the nunciature for the Holy Roman Empire. (For the period 1524-1560 separate nuncios were appointed for the empire and for Germany. These files seem to relate to the nuncio for Germany for that period.) Also included in these records are files relating to or produced by other papal officers concerned with the empire, including nuncios and legates in Graz, Salzburg, Frankfurt, Buda, Prague, and Cologne (but most records relating to the nuncio to Cologne are found under the name Nunziatura di Colonia); special legates; and others. (Note that records relating to the nuncio to Bavaria are found under the name Nunziatura di Baviera.) These records also contain scattered volumes relating in part to several non-German nuncios.
